Abstract trancending ideals or forms are often called the “One.” Plato is the man that talked about the “One.”  He advocated a method of knowledge that was deduced from trancending forms/universal principles.
The essence of Plato’s method of knowledge is the connection between an object (the sign) and the idea of an object (the thing signified). This distinction between sign/signfied or object/idea along with a separate reality of abstract ideals called “Forms” is Plato’s system of knowledge. In other words, Plato’s concept of knowledge is a single body of knowledge unified by what he called the “idea of the Good” or “Forms” or the “Universal.” This univeral Oneness, thing-being-signified through expression, is the principle of all knowledge. It is from this universal principle that all things and knowledge are deduced. This system of knowledge is a deductive system.
